Like most journaling apps, Day One got all the features to keep your journal. It positions itself as a journal for life, has a beautiful award winning design and won both the App of the Year and the Apple Design Award. It is loaded with features to enable you to journal.

But does that make it the best journal for you?

Use Notepad, Word, paper, you get about the same result. A record of your life in pictures, handwriting, organized using your own system.

Somebody on Quora asked what are alternatives to Day One. The #1 response comes from a user saying that Word is his favorite journaling app, because Word basically has the same features as Day One, but is more flexible and is free.

In other words, if all you're looking for is a Word replacement then Day One makes a great alternative.

The question you should ask yourself is, why are you journaling?

Most people journal to reflect, to gain insights and to take back control of their day. At least that’s why Tim Ferris, Oprah Winfrey, Einstein, Obama and many other successful people journal.

Here's why Obama is journaling

In other words, what you want is a Day One alternative that helps you achieve your (journaling) goals.

DailyState is the only Day One alternative that helped me with my (journaling) goals - Sophie Lewis

This is what DailyState does.

Our vision is that technology is here to help us, not to replace pen and paper. Journal apps should help us with our journaling goals.

Insights.
Goals.
Achievements.
Coaching
Reminders.
Privacy.

That’s what I want from a journal.

And I have only found a single journal that does this. I’ve been using DailyState for half a year, the insights I get are amazing. For example, I’ve been tracking headaches. Here’s the chart that shows me when I had a headache

But it also allows me to set goals. One of my goals is to exercise 5 times a week. I write about it in my journal, and then I get status updates like so:

The DailyState coach keeping my updated about my commitment to exercise
The DailyState coach keeping my updated about my commitment to exercise

That feels good! 😍

Like a coach acknowledging my progress. But that coach is also honest, it will tell me when I don’t make progress so I can improve myself.

This is the reason I journal. To become a better version of myself.

Like I said, most journal apps do nothing more than Word in a fancy way. They help you replace paper, but they don’t help you change. Day One falls into this category.

DailyState is a Day One Alternative that does help you become a better version of yourself. But don't take my word for it, sign up now and experience it yourself.
